Hi, I’m Jocelin. I am a mental health advocate and social worker-in-training. I am also a passionate explorer of the intersections between science, advocacy, and community work.
With a background in sociology, social sciences, and botany, I’ve spent years navigating the world of mental health. I have also explored psychopharmacology and substance use recovery. My interests lie particularly in psychedelics and neurochemistry. I have a deep curiosity about phenethylamines and tryptamines, exploring their therapeutic potential, history, and cultural significance. My goal is to bridge the gap between scientific research and real-world application. I am especially focused on the field of assisted psychedelic therapy. I plan to establish myself in this field after completing my Master’s in Social Work at Stony Brook University (May 2025).
Beyond the lab and therapy room, I am deeply committed to social justice, immigrant advocacy, and political activism. As a second-generation Mexican American, I’ve worked to amplify immigrant voices, particularly within the Belmont Racetrack community, where my family has roots. From organizing mental health workshops for immigrant women to running for my local school board in the Elmont Free School Union District, I believe in the power of grassroots activism and systemic change.
This blog, Psychedelic Purepecha, is a space where I blend my passions—sharing insights on psychedelics, mental health, advocacy, and policy. Whether you’re here for research, activism, or just curiosity, I hope you find something that sparks your own exploration.
Let’s connect, challenge norms, and push for a future where science, justice, and community well-being intersect.
–Jocelin
